6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In researching my target audience I found that it was a lot easier to use the internet to obtain the results rather than going around ad asking questions to each one of them to fill out my questionnaire. I have used an online website (QuestionPro) in order to create an online survey.       By pitching my survey online I was able to get reliable data/information and it’s a quicker way. This because I have asked people to fill out my questionnaire through social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.

I have used Adobe Photoshop to manipulate the images I have used in my magazine in order to make “the hyperreal effect”. This was the first time using this software so I learnt the basic function on the software, then using the software was easy and quick in editing the pictures.

The disadvantage of using this software is that once the image is edited, and that imagine is modified this will destroy the original image, where as other editing software will allow you to preview and process the photos without destroying the original.

After I have edited the images, now I was able to construct my music magazine. In order to do this I used Microsoft Publisher as it was easy to create the magazine. Obviously compared to major publishing houses, Microsoft publisher is not a high standard software, however I still managed to produce as professional as possible. Also I knew how to use Microsoft Publisher therefore there was no needs to learn how to use it as I did for Adobe Photoshop.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

When deciding my audience for my magazine I didn’t know who I wanted to aim my magazine, but I knew that I wanted to target a young demographic audience (teenagers). In order to decide who to target my magazine I have pitched a survey online by using quentionpro.com. The survey was consisting of 8 questions relevant to my audience. This helped me to find out key factors that my target audience wanted from my magazine. By pitching the survey online, I was able to attract a lot people to answer my survey as I have spread it through social media, such as Facebook and Twitter. Then I have collected all the data and put it in various graphs which then placed onto a PowerPoint presentation.

At the end of the presentation I have created an “Audience Profile” which concluded and summed up all the results and directed me to the audience which I should aim my magazine at.

As you can see from this audience profile reveals that my target audience is predominantly males. However I will have articles for females as well, this because from collecting the data I understood that females want me magazine, which means a larger demographic audience. Therefore my magazine is aimed at teenagers between 15-24. As my audience are in a young age they are most likely to not to earn much money, however I’m going to start to sell my magazine from £1.50, as I think it’s a reasonable price and more people will be able to afford it.  To make my magazine unique I will try and make my magazine inspirational, where teenagers could find themselves in the same situations.

On my audience profile there are many images that portrays my audiences youth through mobile phones such as blackberry’s and iphone’s and through consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?

I could choose either a major distribution company, EMAP and IPC or smaller companies which are cheaper I have researched both EMAP and IPC, but also smaller independent companies. I had initial to choose a smaller independent company as they target a smaller niche market, however urban music used to be underground steam music, but as time went on, people have started to accept it more and therefore it has become a mainstream music which means that I would require a bigger company to distribute my magazine.

I believe IPC would be an ideal choice as it does not have urban hip hop/RNB music magazine which means that I may be able to open up a new market for them. IPC have expertise in making a magazine and they have connections to sell my magazine to big shop brand names, whereas independent companies could only make a small amount and the quality may not be as good which means that it may not appeal to my audience. I also understand that I could self publish my magazine due to the proliferation of new technologies, although I believe that I do not have the resources to pull this off by myself. I will use social media to market my magazine via social chat rooms such as facebook which creates a synergy between my magazine and facebook, but also my own website.

I will use the internet and digital technologies to market and distribute my magazine in various ways such as putting an advertisement on the most common website that my audience go on. I decided to use Facebook and YouTube as I found out that most of my demographic use YouTube to listen to music and they use Facebook to talk about various things such as music.
